La reazione del mondo alla dichiarazione del Santo Padre che attribuisce il termine "chiesa" solo alla chiesa cattolica è stata di shock. Fortunatamente, c’è stato subito il Cardinale Kasper che ha ricordato al Papa gli insegnamenti del Concilio Vaticano II sull’ecumenismo. E grazie al cielo si stanno organizzando incontri interreligiosi che pongono le basi di una reale fratellanza religiosa, creando un’atmosfera di accoglienza reciproca a prescindere dalle denominazioni. In poche parole si tratta di considerare che tutti gli uomini sono creati a immagine e somiglianza di Dio.

Un autore del II secolo in tema di chiesa ha scritto: "Abbiamo l’autorità della Bibbia e degli Apostoli nell’affermare che la chiesa non è stata creata ai nostri tempi, ma esisteva fin dal principio. (Breviario Romano, cap. 13,2 14-15). E San Paolo continua dicendo: "Non infatti in virtù della legge fu data ad Abramo o alla sua discendenza la promessa di diventare erede del mondo, ma in virtù della giustizia che viene dalla fede; poiché se diventassero eredi coloro che provengono dalla legge, sarebbe resa vana la fede e nulla la promessa. La legge infatti provoca l’ira; al contrario, dove non c’è legge, non c’è nemmeno trasgressione. Eredi quindi si diventa per la fede, perché ciò sia per grazia e così la promessa sia sicura per tutta la discendenza, non soltanto per quella che deriva dalla legge, ma anche per quella che deriva dalla fede di Abramo, il quale è padre di tutti noi. Egli ebbe fede sperando contro ogni speranza e così divenne padre di molti popoli, come gli era stato detto: Così sarà la tua discendenza. Egli non vacillò nella fede, pur vedendo gia come morto il proprio corpo - aveva circa cento anni - e morto il seno di Sara. Per la promessa di Dio non esitò con incredulità, ma si rafforzò nella fede e diede gloria a Dio, pienamente convinto che quanto egli aveva promesso era anche capace di portarlo a compimento. Ecco perché gli fu accreditato come giustizia". (Rom 4:13.16-18.22). La chiesa deriva da Abramo qualunque nome abbia assunto a partire dai figli di Abramo nel mondo per la sua realizzazione.

Il papa dovrebbe sapere che i cattolici di oggi non sono quei cristiani che Giovanni Paolo II definiva così: "i cristiani hanno spesso negato il Vangelo, producendo la mentalità del potere". Noi non possiamo più prendere per ’Causa Finita’ quello che viene da Roma, come assoluta e ultima verità. Le dimissioni del Cardinale Karl Lehmann dalla Presidenza della Conferenza Episcopale tedesca è stata un’altra indicazione di ciò che bolle in pentola nella chiesa cattolica. Egli aveva chiaramente affermato che le chiese locali, cioè le Conferenze Episcopali che si assumono la responsabilità territoriale, prendono autonomamente le proprie decisioni, pur dopo attenta e profonda riflessione. Poi il Vaticano, che ritiene di avere il diritto di rifiutare l’autorità delle chiese locali, suggerisce di solito altri studi ed approfondimenti che si riserva in seguito di approvare.

Oggi la collegialità significa che il Vaticano praticamente approva le sue stesse deliberazioni, non certo quelle delle Conferenze Episcopali. Tre Conferenze Episcopali hanno avuto problemi di recente: Olanda, Australia e Sud-Africa. Tutto sospeso, finché Roma non riceve "l’illuminazione".

Il Cardinale Claudio Hummes, mentre si recava a Roma per prendere possesso del suo nuovo incarico come Prefetto per la Congregazione del Clero, dichiarò che il celibato è una mera disciplina ecclesiastica. Appena si è seduto sul suo trono in Vataicano, ha ampiamente assorbito la filosofia di vita della Curia Romana. Ha perfino affermato che i preti sposati sono solo l’1% dei ministri che non osservano il celibato. Disse anche questo: "gli stessi preti, in numero sempre crescente, rifiutano di essere vincolati all’obbligo del celibato e chiedono insistentemente ai vescovi una revisione della legge - una revisione appoggiata dalla maggioranza del clero e dei laici". Dove ha preso Hummes quella percentuale dell’1%? Inoltre il cosiddetto 99% fedele al celibato risulta abbastanza ovvio data la media dell’età del clero. Anche gli ordini religiosi sono in crisi per mancanza di vocazioni.

I preti sposati alla riscossa

In una diocesi italiana, un vescovo ha chiuso un occhio su una comunità servita da un prete sposato. Credo che ci siano molte situazioni simili nel mondo. I fedeli sono al corrente della situazione dei loro preti, e accettano senza fare domande. In questo modo si arriva all’ipocrisia, pensando di salvare le anime. Ma il 99% veramente rispetta il celibato?

Auspichiamo un numero crescente di comunità amministrate da preti sposati, intorno alle quali sorgerebbero altre comunità ancora per condividere preghiera e ascolto. Questo tipo di comunità stanno sorgendo proprio sulla scia delle prime comunità della chiesa apostolica. I preti sposati saranno integrati nelle comunità, come guide, dove ogni famiglia sarà orgogliosa di contribuire secondo le proprie capacità. Non ci sarà una struttura imposta dall’alto perché la comunità si è strutturata secondo le sue perticolari esigenze. Sparirà il clericalismo. Ci saranno solo le comunità come quella di S. Paolo, quelle che lui stesso chiamava "chiesa": Salutate Prisca e Aquila, miei collaboratori in Cristo Gesù; per salvarmi la vita essi hanno rischiato la loro testa, e ad essi non io soltanto sono grato, ma tutte le Chiese dei Gentili; salutate anche la comunità che si riunisce nella loro casa (Rom 16:3-5).

Cari confratelli preti sposati, andiamo avanti per la nostra strada, riempiremo le parrocchie che stanno chiudendo. Preghiamo che il Signore ci accompagni come ha fatto con gli apostoli quando entravano in terra di nessuno. Stiamo camminando sulle rovine, dove la speranza è diventata solo un ricordo. Le parole di S. Ilario le abbiamo fatte nostre: "così questa casa che è costruita da Dio, basata sui Suoi insegnamenti, non crollerà. Questa casa crescerà e si espanderà in nuovi edifici che diverranno le case dei fedeli in un crescendo di benedizioni per noi e per le nostre comunità" (S. Ilario: commenti. 126)

Spero che non ci sia spazio per il passato, noi siamo l’attuale speranza per la chiesa cattolica. Per favore, rimuovete coraggiosamente gli ostacoli che incontrate sulla via. Siete i preti rinnovati. Immergetevi ancora nel Sangue di Cristo che vi purificherà e porrà una nuova veste per la vostra nuova missione, da portare avanti nel Suo nome. Che Dio sia con voi e vi benedica.

The Vatican is Progressively Becoming the Tower of Babel


The reaction of the world to the declaration of the Holy Father attributing the word "Church" only to the Catholic Church was one of shock. Fortunately, the one who came in quickly was Cardinal Kasper to remind the Pope of the teaching of the Vatican Council II on ecumenism. Happily, there are on-going inter-religious meetings which lay the foundations for true brotherhood and sisterhood in religion and create an atmosphere of acceptance of one another as religious denominations. In a word, we are talking of all people made in God’s image and likeness.


One of the writers "on Church" in the second century says: "We have the authority of the Bible and the Apostles for saying that the Church is not founded only at the present time but was from the beginning." (Roman Breviary: ch.13,2-14-5). And St. Paul goes on to say: "The promise of inheriting the world was not made to Abraham and his descendants on account of any law but on account of the righteousness which consists in faith. That is why what fulfils the promise depends on faith, so that it may be a free gift and be available to all Abraham’s descendants, not only to those who belong to the faith of Abraham who is the Father of us all." (Romans 4:13.16-18.22). The Church is enshrined in the veins of Abraham by whatever name it has taken as the children of Abraham went throughout the world settling down for their self-realization.


The Pope should know that the Catholics of today are not all those Christians, whom Pope John Paul II called: "Christians have often denied the Gospel, yielding to a mentality of power." We no longer take for granted that all that comes from Rome is "Causa Finita," the last and definite truth. The resignation of Cardinal Karl Lehmann as the President of the German Episcopal conference was another indication of the boiling-pots in the Catholic Church. He clearly stated that the local churches, that is, the Episcopal Conference has its own local Church responsibility, on which it makes full and definite decisions, after sometimes long deliberations. Then the Vatican, which believes it has all the discernment refuses to put a seal of approval on the local churches’ decisions, and sends them with some suggestions for further study for approval.

Collegiality now means that the Vatican then approves its own work, not that of the local Episcopal Conference. Three conferences faced with problems: Holland, Australia, and South-Africa. Everything is suspended, till Rome will receive the Light.



Cardinal Claudio Hummes, when he was on his way to Rome to take up this new post which he holds as Prefect of the Congregation of the Clergy, declared that celibacy was a mere discipline of the church. He was very clear on celibacy, it is a mere discipline of the Church. As soon as he sat on the chair of Vatican responsibility, he imbibed the curial philosophy of life, and today he dances according to the rhythm of the Curia Romana. He has gone so far as to speak of the married priests as only a 1% of the failing celibate priests. He is contradicted by Father Donald Cozzens in his book: "Freeing celibacy. He has this to say.: "Priests themselves, in growing numbers, refuse to be resigned to the present burden of mandated celibacy and are calling upon their Bishops for a review of celibacy laws -- a review favored by most priests and an overwhelming majority of the laity." Where does Hummes take the 1% of the so-called failing clergy? Moreover the numbers he counts on with 99% success for celibacy are necessarily diminishing due to old age. Even religious congregations struggle to have vocations today.



The Married Priests Taking Over


In one diocese in Italy, a Bishop has put a blind eye to a community which is being served by a married Priest. I believe that many situations are alike in the World. The faithful are aware of the status of their priests, and in silence they accept them as such. This is where some of the Bishops have taken their stand. One allows hypocrisy to exist, provided that the souls are saved. Are they 99% celibate?


We look forward to a number of new emerging communities led by married priests, around which other communities will begin to come together and pray. Such are the new communities are coming up as they did in the early apostolic church. The married priests will slowly serve their communities, with a community leadership, where each family will be satisfied to contribute within its own capacity. There will be no structure imposed from above, since the community has come up, and has taken shape according to the needs in that particular community. Clericalism will disappear. They will be St. Paul’s Communities, which he called churches: "My greetings to Prisca and Aquila, my fellow-workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks to save my life; to them, thanks not only from me, but from all the churches among gentiles; and my greetings to the Church at their house." (Romans 16:3-5).


My fellow married priests, we are on our way, marching as we take over slowly the closed parishes. Let us pray that the Lord will accompany us as He did the Apostles as they stepped on untended lands. We are walking on ruins, where hope became a memory. The words of St. Hilary are ours today: "So this house which is built by God, that is by His teachings, will not collapse. This house will grow and expand into several houses as the divine buildings of the faithful make for the adornment and increase of the blessed community in each one of us." (St. Hilary: Commentary on Ps. 126).


Hope is no more of the past, we are the present hope of the Catholic Church. Please, courageously remove the obstacles in your way. You are a renewed Priest. Wash yourself again and again in the Blood of Christ, who will cleanse you, and put a new gown for your new mission, which you resume in His name. May God be with you and bless you.
