IN CERCA DELL’UNITA’

Signori e Signore,

I suoi apostoli erano sposati, tranne uno, Giovanni l’Evangelista.

I militari, i politici? No, mai! (Rev.

(Rev. Moon all’Assemblea Mondiale delle Religioni, 1985).

IN SEARCH OF UNITY

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is mine as well to welcome you and thank you that you have come to this Convention of Religious Unity. The presence of the unification movement in Brazil has given me several opportunities to meet many Catholic Bishops, who head the many Catholic Independent Churches. They have easily identified themselves with me, since they heard that I was excommunicated because of my marriage and my consecration of the four Bishops in USA without permission.

I, the rejected one, have now become the factor of unity in the Catholic Church, because many of the Independent Catholic Churches suffered the same treatment, and they left the Roman Catholic Church. Aware of my Apostolic Succession, all that I do the Catholic Independent Churches justify as valid and acceptable.

The result is that the Orthodox Church, some of the points for which they did not agree with the Roman Catholic Church were the imposition of celibacy. Now seeing me taking a normal step by marrying publicly, they consider me truly their brother in Christ Jesus who never imposed celibacy in His original Catholic Church. His Apostles were married, except one, John the Evangelist. The Lutherans accept me for two most important points. One is for the needed change in the Catholic Church. Second is marriage, which should not in the least diminish the luster of priesthood.

In the last weeks of October, San Paolo; we celebrated together, Catholics of the Roman Rite, Catholic Independent Churches, Anglican and Orthodox Ukrainian Church. There were no hitches in the celebration of Mass. Our Orthodox Archbishop preached the homily; while the holy readings and prayers were shared between the Independent Catholic Churches and Anglican. I as a Roman Catholic Archbishop consecrated the Host and Wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. It was no more unity in theory but unity in fact, to the satisfaction of all of us present.

Again through the Unification Movement, I have come to know my Brothers and Sisters of the Jewish Nation. The Jewish Community too having heard of my presence in Brazil, and that I was in San Paolo, invited me to their liturgical celebration at which I received Communion under both species, Bread and Wine, the Body and the Blood of Jesus Christ. I was then once more invited the following Sunday to the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. I recommend to you, Catholic Independent Churches, the Anglicans and Lutherans to participate at these Jewish celebrations, which will bring you once more to the roots of our Scriptures.

Humanly speaking, what delights one is the joy of the conductors of the celebrations. Particularly at the Feat of Tabernacles, they came up with the traditional Jewish Liturgical Dance. The music, the vestments they wore, all led to the solemnity of the Feast. Then came the Holy Community Meal, which was served under a shade full of fruits, and the products of nature, giving thanks to God for everything.

On 3rd November 2007, I met a Sheik, and an African Moslem leader who is a professor and historian. It was the first time I met him and I never heard of him; while he spoke of me, and preached to his Moslem Community in Africa as well about me. He taught me a lot, and certainly I have someone from the Moslem Community with whom I shall join hands to contribute to the understanding between Christians and Moslems.

Let me make a short pause here by telling you a true fact. In 2005, in my humble person, Milingo received a message from God to go and meet a Moslem Leader in England. This person was a very renowned Moslem, and I was assured that he would receive me. I was advised not to suddenly appear before him, but rather to write him and ask for an appointment. So I wrote the first letter, and gave it to someone who was going up and down, between Rome and London. No reply. She gave the letter personally to His officers, but no reply.

I gathered my courage again. I wrote a second letter to be given to him, once more by hand to his office. She did so. No reply. I had written to him the following: “Dear sir, you do not know me, neither do I know you. But God is saying that we should meet. I do not know what God has in stock for humanity. In that realization in which God banks a lot, we shall know only when we meet.”

I was clearly told that we two; he as a Moslem, I as a Christian, due to our international names should come together and see what God had for us, in order to send us into our mission. And things happened which were clearly part of our role to prevent them to happen for the detriment of human life.

This human attitude, not to easily take seriously God’s messengers and their messages, has caused a lot of harm to human society. They have been deprived of the benefits foreseen in the messages.

There is another example, which was confirmed at the visit of the king of Saudi Arabia to Queen Elizabeth II of England, where the King revealed to the Queen that he had warned the Bush Administration, the pending danger of terrorism. However, the Bush Administration put aside the warning, relying on their own findings and confirmations. Then the worst happened on 11th September 2001.

I would like now to come to the central theme of unity. Rev. Moon should by now have lost his voice, as he shouts with such efforts and emotions, when he speaks of Unity and Peace, not to mention Love and Family. I would like first to dwell on what Jesus says on Unity.

John chapter 17 is entitles: The Prayer of Jesus. It has 26 verses. He repeats; calling God “Father,” six times. He speaks with such intimacy that in our imagination we see Him really and truly pleading with his Father for humanity into unity similar to that which exists among them: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. But one wonders why “UNITY?” The more joy and love are extended and shared, the more expands the territory where people enjoy Peace and Freedom. It is through unity of heart and mind that peace, joy, love can be fully shared by a multitude. True Freedom then exists among the members of a community.

But the argument of Jesus is that our human unity should take its roots in God. Hence He says; “May they all be one, just as Father You are in Me and I am in You, so that the World may believe it was you who sent me.” (John 17:23) We were not just separated from God by the original sin; the two sexes were as well divided. Hence the Bible says: “Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loin-clothes.” (Gen 3:7) Sex from that day on became a cause of shame, just as it is even today. Then went with it the immortality of the human body, which would have been complete joining hands with that of the soul which was immortal, since God had breathed into man: “Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, and man became a living being.” (Gen 2:7) This sharing of God’s life to be immortal both soul and body is testified by the Book of Wisdom, where it is said: “For God created human beings to be immortal, He made them as an image of His own Nature; Death came into the world only through the Devil’s envy, as those who belong to him find to their cost.” (Wisdom 2:23~24)

God’s anger, when this fact took place, that His First Human Son and Daughter fell, He did not hesitate to humiliate them by telling them the following: “For dust you are and to dust you shall return.” (Gen 3:19) The sin was disobedience, but connected with sexual love, through which life is transmitted. We see how severe the law is becoming in connection with children’s sexual abuse, even a father with his own children. This is where today’s morality is at its lowest ebb.

Let us see how Rev. Moon puts it: “Yet when Adam and Eve fell, this lineage more precious than life was lost.” Why more precious than life? It was because through their faithfulness and obedience to the law of God, that channel of divinity to take us to eternal life was cut by the devil. So is how Rev. Moon continues: “The fruits of true life and true love never matured. They became the fruits of Satan, lacking any relationship with heaven. From them descended the six billion people now inhabiting the earth.” (Universal Peace Federation 12 September 2007)

I have given example in history, how the prophets were sometimes not believed. Some of them were even killed because of the message they gave as a warning from God, who demanded a change of mind and behavior of the people. I see myself the same way happen with the messages of Rev. Moon. For instance, what happened at Peace Cup Competition in Korea. It was a shame that the Christians joined together to oppose the football game. The teams from Europe, the majority of the players were Christian. They were very happy to participate at the games. But the banners at the stadium to prevent people from going into the football stadium were a shame to all of us Christians.

Rev. Moon represents the heart of the whole humanity, and with both hands embraces the whole humanity. His message is an order, a command from Jesus, to work for the unity of religions. He is not recruiting people for membership into Unification Church. But rather into membership of World Brotherhood and Sisterhood, united into one human family under but one Heavenly Father, who is God. If you already know God and love Him, Rev. Moon will share with you new aspects on how to share your life with others. Here he urges us religious leaders to face the World’s problems and propose solutions. Here he goes: “Who can take responsibility for today’s world? Can the military or the politicians? Can businessmen or people with new technology? Never! God is asking religious leaders, today’s prophets and priests to solve these problems…” (Rev. Moon at the Assembly of World Religions in 1985)

Our Theology Is Intellectual Idolatry

We Christians have not yet come down to grassroots level to revolutionize every citizen in our country to think God-wise. To think God-wise means to be normal as God planned us to be. I am experiencing that now-a-days, when everyone is saying: “Finally now Milingo is put on the shelf by the Roman Catholic Church; finally he is ours. He belongs to us all.” I am enjoying this freedom being truly the child of God, belonging to the whole human race. Here is what Rev. Moon says on this point: “All religious people standing on the internal foundation of deep self-reflection should challenge the prevalence of all evils and work creatively in order to realize God’s will on earth.” (Rev. Moon at that Assembly of the World’s Religions 1985)

If today’s theology has not helped us to stabilize the family, as we see some women happy to have a child without being tied to a husband. This is today’s testimony of the presence of single mothers. Divorces are experience of every nation. But then where is the influence of religions? Where is the influence of theology? We are doomed, but we should not accept it. Theology should explain the meaning of: “What God has bound together, no one should put asunder.” In easy terms, Rev. Moon puts it as follows: “When we are bound together in true love, we can be together forever, continually increasing in the joy of each other’s company. The attraction of true love brings all in the universe to our feet; even God will come to dwell with us. Nothing can compare to the value of true love. It has the power to dissolve the barriers fallen people have created, including national boundaries and the barriers of race and even religion.” (Universal Peace Federation 23rd September 2007)

State And Government And Religion

I was happy to listen to what Dr. Leonardo Boff, a theologian said on television on 3rd November 2007. He truly elevated the role of the Ministers and Government Administrators to a level of awareness, of which they themselves do not know that they are in. He said: “Those who have an office or a responsibility of leadership in the Government, ought to remember that they are expected to be a people of respectability and high morals. That is why they are chosen to lead people in every aspect of life by good conduct and morals.” He was speaking of the Government serving everyone, not putting a blind eye especially to the poor.

While St. Paul teaches us how to behave ourselves as subjects of a state, a political civil entity, he insists that we ought to obey the state, because any state in the world takes its authority from God. Here he goes: “Submission to Civil Authority: Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except form God and so whatever authorities exist has been appointed by God. So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebelling against God’s ordinance; and rebels must expect to receive the condemnation they deserve. Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live with no fear of authority, live honestly and you will have its approval; it is there to serve God for you and for your good.” (Roman 13:1~5)

The discriminations, of which Rev. Moon has said that they ought to be destroyed by True Love, include the destruction of discrimination between church and state. They ought to look at each other, as entities to whom God has given responsibilities to serve His people, giving them special gifts to serve the holy people of God. I belong to the state of Zambia, that is why I carry a Zambian Passport. However, I am a church man, that is why the Catholic Authority in Rome is continuously in touch with me. I enjoy the care of both of them. I am certain that they take this responsibility towards me from God.

God At The Necks Of State Governors

God is hard as He deals with civil authority. He is likewise to them because of the seriousness of their responsibility. They have in their hands people’s lives. They are drawn a lot more to the grandeur, prestige, fame, and honor they receive from their subjects, or which they demand by force. Hence He is hard when He speaks to them: “Listen then, Kings and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning; hear this, you who govern great populations, for sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and Power by the Most High, who will Himself probe your acts and scrutinize your intentions. If therefore, as servants of His Kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor followed the will of God, He will fall on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgment falls; the lowly are pardoned out of pity, but the mighty will be mightily tormented.” (Wisdom 6:1~6)

The working together of both church and state, the different religions are summarized in St. Paul’s letter, Romans chapter 13:8~10; “The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is to fulfill the Law. All these: you shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: you must love your neighbors as yourself. Love can cause no harm to your neighbor, and so love is the fulfillment of the Law.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, men and women of good will, let us take upon ourselves the responsibility of realizing the plans of God, to have created us in His same image and likeness to recognize our unity as children of God
