Miei cari preti e vescovi sposati, buona fine d’anno 2007. Mi scuserete se utilizzo il termine “miei” come se volessi appropriarmi dei preti sposati. Sono uno di voi, e non ho nessuna intenzione di appropriarmi di voi. Ma sento di essere in comunione con voi nella sofferenza che avete attraversato. Allo stesso tempo sono felice di affermare di aver incontrato degli ottimi preti sposati. Nel condividere con loro i miei pensieri, le mie convinzioni, è venuto fuori chiaramente tutto il disagio per la negazione della grazia derivante dal loro ministero presbiterale ad oggi impedito. La loro pacatezza, la loro umiltà, la loro tolleranza dopo anni di silenzio ed umiliazioni imposti per anni, sono venuti fuori nella nostra condivisione.
Sono felice di poter dire che la mia gioia e la mia libertà, condivisa con un prete sposato giornalista, gli ha dato la forza di confessare: “guarda, quando ho letto di te, credevo che fossi una persona triste e confusa. Con mia grande sorpresa, invece, mi trovo a parlare con una persona libera, e piena di gioia”. Gli ho rilevato da dove provengono la mia gioia e la mia libertà. Sono convinto di ciò che faccio e sono guidato da Dio in tutte le mie azioni. Non ho quindi ragione di essere triste o dubbioso.

Le mie ragioni possono facilmente essere comprese da qualunque cristiano, che abbia conoscenza della vita di Gesù, il fondatore della chiesa cattolica. La risposta è la devozione recente verso Gesù misericordioso. Siamo stati tutti liberati dalla condanna che pendeva sulle nostre teste, quando Gesù se ne è fatto carico di fronte all’ira del Padre Celeste. Guardandomi oggi come prete sposato, cosa che viene vista come un errore, un grave peccato agli occhi della chiesa cattolica romana, non mi sento diverso da Pietro o Paolo, anch’essi grandi peccatori. Essi sono stati perdonati senza riserve da parte di Gesù, che li ha scelti quali Suoi apostoli.
Durante un colloquio privato con un famoso prete sposato brasiliano, docente di una delle università in Brasile, egli mi ha detto: “La tendenza della chiesa cattolica romana a non perdonare, ignorando i preti sposati, condannati per sempre, contraddice il messaggio di Gesù, che è misericordioso per natura e nostro redentore ”. Poi ha continuato dicendo: “Se Gesù fosse stato come la chiesa cattolica di oggi, avrebbe cacciato tutti gli apostoli, perché incapaci di comprendere”. Naturalmente bisogna apprezzare la pazienza e la tolleranza di Gesù nel rapportarsi con ignoranti, gente impreparata a prendersi grandi responsabilità, a prendere il suo posto nella diffusione del vangelo come parola di vita. Comunque Egli non li ha lasciati nella loro ignoranza. Ha mandato lo Spirito Santo, che la chiesa cattolica romana tiene debitamente al di fuori delle mura vaticane.

Le aspirazioni e le confessioni delle nostre future comunità

“In termini concreti e attivi l’associazione francofona dei preti sposati vuole ascoltare tutti i cristiani che hanno sperimentato questo atteggiamento offensivo della chiesa cattolica romana, e che vogliono crescere nella fede, perdonando gli errori fatti e proclamando Gesù Cristo a tutti i fratelli, specialmente in questo tempo in cui il bene deve tornare a splendere”.
“La mia congregazione vuole aiutare le persone sieropositive nell’avvicinarsi ai sacramenti, battezzando i bambini in ospedale. Vorrei quindi che la mia comunità facesse capo a lei”.
“Descriverei la prelatura cattolica in questo modo: La Prelatura Cattolica è presente nel nostro mondo come un segno della grazia di Dio, con zelo, coraggio, fedeltà al nostro Signore e Salvatore Gesù Cristo, servendo il Popolo di Dio, aiutandolo nella ricerca della verità e chiamandolo alla libertà, con supporto dello Spirito Santo, guida e aiuto contro il potere del male”.

“I preti della chiesa cattolica apostolica devono potersi sposare secondo le affermazioni dell’Apostolo Paolo nella prima epistola a Timoteo (Tim 1, 1-13), che recita: “Ma bisogna che il vescovo sia irreprensibile, non sposato che una sola volta, sobrio, prudente, dignitoso, ospitale, capace di insegnare, non dedito al vino, non violento ma benevolo, non litigioso, non attaccato al denaro. Sappia dirigere bene la propria famiglia e abbia figli sottomessi con ogni dignità, perché se uno non sa dirigere la propria famiglia, come potrà aver cura della Chiesa di Dio?’ Da notare come il celibato dei preti in altre confessioni sia un problema di regole e non di prescrizioni bibliche”.
“Come ho anticipato già a sua grazia, e ho ripetuto nel quarto paragrafo della lettera, ciò che ha spinto la nostra comunità verso di lei, e ciò che sua grazia persegue è quello che la Prelatura Cattolica può offrire, non in termini di lotta contro altri gruppi, ma, una volta in attività, essere testimonianza e luce per il mondo. Lei, sua grazia, ha questo carisma, deve solo dirci dove andare, se il bene delle persone è ciò che stiamo cercando, e noi la seguiremo”.
Ho menzionato solo alcune tra le aspirazioni e speranze, derivanti anche dalle dichiarazioni di coloro che ci hanno conosciuto. Siate sicuri che Dio è più grande di quanto possiamo immaginare. Anche di fronte alle manchevolezze umane, dobbiamo avere uno spirito condiscendente, tentativo iniziato anche dalla chiesa cattolica romana nella storia, ma che ora ha fallito e rischia di diventare un modello imperfetto di Corpo di Cristo. La storia ce l’ha mostrata, piena di limiti, che in qualche modo, sono oggi ancora presenti.
Tentando di occultarli, potremmo dire “non è colpa di nessuno, dato che l’umanità è fragile e priva di lungimiranza”. Affinché noi possiamo dirci diversi da coloro che hanno occultato i danni, dobbiamo pregare per la nostra madre chiesa e per le sue mancanze, che il Signore possa preservarli dalla colpa delle punizioni che hanno inflitto, come ad esempio scomuniche, interdizioni o sospensioni “a divinis”. E’ come contraddire la devozione della Divina Misericordia, recentemente approvata, portata avanti da S. Faustina. Se la chiesa cattolica romana persevera nei suoi mezzi punitivi menzionati pocanzi, non può rappresentare un Gesù misericordioso sulla terra. Una più profonda comprensione della misericordia la ritroviamo nelle parole di S. Giuliano di Norwich (1342-1423): “Scorgi e apprezza questo prezioso ed abbondante sangue che discende fino negli inferi, (Purgatorio), che si propaga senza fine e si spande su tutti coloro che appartengono alle corti celesti. Il sangue prezioso pieno della Sua grazia abbraccia tutta la terra ed è pronto a lavare i peccati di tutte le creature di buona volontà, quelle che sono e quelle che verranno”.
Uno dei nostri obiettivi è insegnare la misericordia, essendo noi stessi i primi a perdonare la nostra madre chiesa, la chiesa cattolica romana.

The End of the Year 2007

My dear married priests and bishops, Happy end of the year 2007. You will hold me excused, if by any unfortunate understanding the word “my” may mean appropriation of married priests. I am one of you, and have no intention to appropriate you. But I feel this oneness with you in the suffering you have passed through. On the other hand, I am glad to say that I come across marvelous married priests. As I shared with them my beliefs and convictions, there came out from their hearts that openness, which made flow from them the inhibited graces from their trampled priesthood. Their silence, their humility, their forbearance for years of being silenced and humiliated opened up before me their true selves.

I am happy to say that in one case, my own joy and freedom, experienced by one married priest journalist, made him confess: “look, as I read about you, I expected you to be sad, vanquished and without joy and happiness. To my surprise, he said, here I am talking with a free person, full of joy.” I revealed to him where the source of my joy and freedom lies. I am convinced of what I am doing, and I am guided by God in all that I do. So I have no reason to be sad, or afraid.

My reasons can easily be understood by any Christian, who has even a bit of inkling into the life of Jesus, the founder of the Catholic Church. The answer is the recent devotion of the merciful Jesus. We have all been cleansed from condemnation which was hanging on our heads, and Jesus took it all from the anger of this Heavenly Father, and shouldered it Himself. Looking at myself as a married priest, which fact came about as a mistake, and a serious sin in the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church, I am not different from Peter and Paul who were great sinners. They were forgiven without reservations grudge on the part of Jesus, he made both of them His great apostles.

In a private conversation with a famous married priest in Brazil, a professor in one of the Brazilian Universities, he said to me: “The unforgiving attitude of the Roman Catholic Church, putting a blind eye to the married priests, whom they have condemned forever, contradicts the policy of Jesus the Forgiver by nature of His life as a Redeemer.” He went on to say: “If Jesus were like the Roman Catholic Church today, he would have dismissed all His apostles because He had Himself called them incapable of understanding.” Of course, appreciate the patience and tolerance of Jesus to be with ignorant, unprepared people to take up such a great responsibility, to take His place on earth to spread the gospel, the word of life. However, He did not leave them in their ignorance. He sent them the Holy Spirit, whom the Roman Catholic Church fails to keep Him within the Vatican Walls.

“By active and concrete means, the Francophone Association of Married Priests wants to listen to all Christian who have especially suffered from the offensive attitude of the Roman Catholic Church, and who want to grow up in Faith to forgive the mistakes made and always proclaim Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters, in these times where the epic tidings must increasingly shine.”

“My congregation’s aim to help HIV persons receive sacraments and baptize children at hospital. I would like my community to be under your authority.”

“I will describe the Catholic Prelature as this”: ’The Catholic Prelature stands in our world as a sign of the grace of God, full with zeal, courage, fidelity to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving the people of God, helping them to find the truth and the call that will make them free, supported by the power of the Holy Spirit, to guide and help us against the power of evil.’

“The priest of the Catholic and Apostolic Christian Church must marry according to the requirements of the 1st Epistle of Paul to Timothy (Tim ?, 1-13), which states: ’It is important that the bishop is married, but be the husband of one woman…Namely keep his children in submission because…how can someone lead the church of God, when it is not responsible for his own family?’ Note that the celibacy of priests in some other faiths is a problem of rules and not a biblical prescription.”

“As I said to your grace before, I will repeat again it is on the fourth paragraph of your letter, that is what pushed our community to look for you, that what your grace needs to be and that is what the Catholic Prelature needs to offer, no politics or fighting with this group or the other, once the Prelature starts to be, the Prelature will be that testimony and beacon of light in this world. Your grace you have the vision, tell us where you want to go and if that vision is what people are looking for, we will follow.”

I have just quoted a few aspirations, expectations and the hope, which comes from the confessions of those who have known us. Rest assured that God is greater than anything we can imagine. Even in the human failures, let us look at them with a condescending spirit, that efforts have been made even by the Roman Catholic Church, and certainly it is evident from church history, that the Roman Catholic Church’s efforts have fallen short of being the perfect model of the Body of Christ. History has it, full of weaknesses, which, somehow still are there.

In order to cover up, we would not be wrong to say: “’It is nobody’s fault,’ since all humanity is fragile and short-sighted.” For us to be different from those who usually weep over spilt milk, let us fervently pray for our Mother Church with her weaknesses, that the Lord may cleanse her from the vice of holding on to punitive means to solve problems such as excommunications, interdicts, and suspensions “A Divinis.” It is a contradiction to the newly ecclesiastically approved Devotion, promoted by St. Faustina, of the Divine Mercy. If the Roman Catholic Church holds on to these enumerated above punitive means, then it cannot represent the forgiving Jesus on earth. More profound understanding of forgiveness is expounded in the words of St. Julian of Norwich (1342-1423): “Behold and see this precious and plenteous, worthy and dear blood descends down into hell, (Purgatory), bursts forth her bonds, and delivers all there who belong to the courts of Heaven. The Precious Blood plenty of His dear and worthy Blood overflows the whole earth and is ready to wash from sin all creatures of good will, both those that have been and those still to come.”)

One of our missions is to teach forgiveness, by ourselves being the first to forgive our Mother Church, the Roman Catholic Church.
