03/09/2007 17:30 ECUMENISMO: UN APPELLO A SIBIU PER UNA GIORNATA EUROPEA DI DIALOGO CRISTIANO ISLAMICO

“Istituire una giornata di dialogo cristiano islamico a livello europeo”: questo l’appello che il Comitato italiano organizzatore della sesta giornata ecumenica del dialogo cristiano islamico rivolge ai delegati della terza Assemblea ecumenica europea, che si apre domani a Sibiu (Romania) sul tema “La luce di Cristo illumina tutti. Speranza di rinnovamento ed unità in Europa”. “Nel salutare ed augurare buon lavoro a tutte le delegazioni che fino al 9 settembre cercheranno di rilanciare l’ecumenismo in Europa, superando le gravi difficoltà che sta vivendo il processo ecumenico, vogliamo sottoporre loro – scrivono i firmatari dell’appello – l’esigenza di mettere al centro di tale incontro anche il dialogo con le altre religioni. Siamo convinti che l’ecumenismo cristiano può essere rafforzato se è capace di aprirsi al dialogo con le altre religioni”. Per il Comitato, “particolarmente urgente, vista la congiuntura internazionale che stiamo vivendo, è il dialogo con l’islam che è fondamentale per fermare la guerra e costruire un mondo di pace”. Per tale motivo ed in vista della sesta giornata ecumenica del dialogo cristiano islamico che si celebrerà in Italia il 5 ottobre “facciamo appello alle delegazioni riunite a Sibiu affinché analoga giornata con l’islam sia istituita a livello europeo”.

“Establishing a day of Christian-Islamic dialogue at European level”: this is the appeal made by the Committee which organised the sixth ecumenical day of Christian-Islamic dialogue to the delegates of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly, which opens in Sibiu (Romania) tomorrow, about “The light of Christ enlightens everybody. Hope of renewal and unity in Europe”. “In greeting and wishing the best to all the delegations that until September 9th will try to revive ecumenism in Europe, overcoming the serious difficulties that the ecumenical process is experiencing, we would like to draw to their attention – write the signers of the appeal – the need to put the dialogue with the other religions at the centre of such meeting. We are convinced that Christian ecumenism can be strengthened if it can open up to dialogue with the other religions”. According to the Committee, “particularly urgent, in light of the international situation we are going through, is dialogue with Islam, which is essential to stop the war and build a world of peace”. For this reason and in the run-up to the sixth ecumenical day of Christian-Islamic dialogue that will be celebrated in Italy on October 5th, “we appeal to the delegations gathered in Sibiu, so that a similar Day with Islam be established at a European level”.
