PER IMMEDIATA PUBBLICAZIONE
Riteniamo che tutti quanti siano UNO nel corpo di Cristo. Questa settimana, nell’apprendere degli accordi raggiunti sugli abusi nell’arcidiocesi di Los Angeles, non possiamo che ricordare quanto sia ferito il corpo della chiesa.
Noi piangiamo sulle ferite che le vittime di abusi hanno subito e piangiamo coloro che hanno perso la loro vita a causa di questi abusi. Siamo grati alle vittime per il loro coraggio di raccontarci le loro storie. Le nostre preghiere di guarigione continueranno ad essere con le vittime, i loro familiari e tutta la gente di chiesa che è stata coinvolta in questi abusi.
Mentre l’accordo sembra essere stato raggiunto, noi sappiamo che c’è ancora molto da guarire. Ci saranno ancora tante vittime di abusi che dovranno uscire allo scoperto. Ci sono ancora autorità ecclesiastiche che commettono abusi o permettono che gli abusi si compiano e bisogna fare giustizia. C’è ancora una chiesa da guarire.
Così come non dimenticheremo le ferite di questa gente, ricorderemo sempre che tutti insieme siamo il Corpo di Cristo. Ed è con questa certezza che continuiamo i nostri sforzi per diventare la Chiesa a cui Cristo ci ha chiamati: un corpo che guarisce, un corpo di giustizia, un corpo di pace.

CALL TO ACTION STATEMENT CONCERNING THE SEXUAL ABUSE SETTLEMENT IN THE
LOS ANGELES ARCHDIOCESE


We believe that all people are one in the body of Christ. This week, as we hear of the abuse settlement in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, we are reminded again how wounded is the body of our church.

We mourn the wounding that the abuse survivors have suffered and we mourn those who have lost their lives due to the abuse. We are grateful for the courage of the survivors who have come forward with their stories. Our prayers for healing continue to be with the survivors, their families and all the people of our church who have been affected by this abuse.

While the settlement appears to have come to a close, we know that there is still much healing to be done. There are still abuse survivors who will come forward. There are still church leaders who perpetrated the abuse or permitted the abuse to happen who need to be brought to justice. There is still a church that needs to be healed.

While we will not forget that we are a wounded people, we will always remember that together we are the body of Christ. And it is with this knowing that we continue our striving to be the church to which Jesus has called us: a body of healing, a body of justice, a body of peace.
